Plan Your Romantic Poconos Getaway
Whether you’re planning a proposal, honeymoon, anniversary celebration, or just a relaxing weekend together, the Poconos is the ideal destination for a romantic couple’s getaway. People travel from New York, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and even across the country to find rejuvenation and romance in the Pocono Mountains.
Of course, the area is teeming with things for couples to do, places to stay, and new experiences to have so how do you make the most of your time and get the best bang for your buck? Don’t worry, we’ve got a few suggestions to help you make your Poconos weekend getaway one to remember.
Our list of the best things to do on your Poconos romantic getaway:
1) Reserve a Romantic Room at a Local Resort
Even if you live in the area, it can still be a great idea to book a room at a local resort so that you can escape for a day or two. But with so many options, the best choice isn’t always apparent. Here are our top two recommendations for the best resorts to stay in during your romantic getaway in the Poconos.
Set right in the heart of the Poconos, Paradise Stream is our top pick because it is one of the few couples-only resorts in the area. That’s right, not only can you leave your kids behind, but you can rest assured that everyone else will also leave their kids behind as well. Everything on the property is done with couples in mind, from the Champagne Tower bathtubs to the option to have chocolates and champagne in your room when you arrive. Round out your trip with their on-site amenities or take a horseback ride at the stable located next door. No matter what, you’re bound to have a wonderful time.
2) Visit a Local Vineyard
I know, you may be thinking, “Visit a vineyard in winter??? Seriously?”…yes, actually! Believe it or not, winter is one of the best times to visit a vineyard. Most vintners are home during the winter and have a lot of free time, so it’s an excellent opportunity to chat with them about their techniques and improve your wine knowledge. The tasting rooms and shop itself won’t be crazy busy, allowing you to take your time and savor each sip. Of course, there’s an added benefit to avoiding the crowds – you are your significant other may get a private tasting session! Here are a few of our favorite local vineyards for your romantic vacation.
A relatively new vineyard established in 2010, Blue Ridge Estate has none-the-less proven popular due to it’s relaxed, inviting atmosphere, and 36′ wine bar. The two vintners, Randy and Dan Detrick, currently teach wine science at a local college, so be sure to ask them if you’re interested!
Founded in 2009, Mountain View has been doing so well, they decided to ALSO open a distillery on property! Stop by and taste not just wines but liquor made on-site and grab some food at The Bistro. A special note for anyone planning on popping the question: Mountain View Vineyard hosts many weddings, so this might be a great place to ask the big question, then return for the ceremony!
One of the older vineyards in the area, Sorrenti Cherry Valley Vineyard was established in 1981. A family effort, this vineyard was started by an Italian immigrant named Dominic Sorrenti and is still a family business to this day! Stop by and taste one of their many wines and enjoy the wintertime beauty of Cherry Valley.
3) Go for a Horseback Ride
A little adventure, a lot of love, and horses: the ingredients needed to make a memorable afternoon with your significant other! You may be thinking, “But I’ve never been on horseback!” and that’s perfect because we have two recommendations for beginner friendly trail rides to get you up and out!
Staying at our first pick resort, Paradise Stream? You’ll be happy to know that Mountain Creek Riding stable is only a short walk from the front desk! This stable has been in business for over 20 years and caters to beginners with an easy 45-minute ride through the woods. Great for a quick outing to get a little adventure into your day!
If you’re looking for a bit slower of a pace then The Ranch at Pocono Manor is a perfect choice. This location also caters to beginners and has a Barnyard on site where you can pet and interact with donkeys, chickens, goats and our pig, Penelope. The horseback ride itself is an hour long and is enjoyable year round.
4) End the Day with a Romantic Meal
Of course, after a day out you and your partner will both be hungry. So where’s the best place to go in the area? As locals, we feel it’s our duty to key you in on some of the best spots in the area.
Tucked away down a side road in Cresco, PA, this spot is a true hidden gem. Family owned, this restaurant is a favorite of locals and features high-end fare for a modest price. From the Delmonico Steak to the Scarlett Snapper there isn’t a thing on the menu we wouldn’t recommend.
Looking for something a little more laid-back? The Amber Steakhouse is an excellent choice. Serving hearty American dishes this small restaurant is another local hangout that’s been in business as long as anyone can remember. Go and grab a bite and you’ll soon know why!
The final restaurant on our list is, like all the other’s, a true local’s delight. The Jubilee Restaurant has been in business for over 40 years and is still going strong. They serve traditional American fare with moderate prices. The place can get packed, so be sure to call and make reservations for you and your sweetheart!
And there you have it! All the makings of a perfect romantic getaway to the Poconos. Remember, if you’re coming for Valentine’s Day the area will be busy, so be sure to call and make reservations where appropriate. No matter what you end up doing, we hope that you and your loved one end up having a wonderful time!
