Conveniently located in the beautiful Poconos Mountains, Mountain Creek Riding Stable offers public and private horseback riding near Philadelphia. These guided horseback rides are scenic, leisurely, and ideal for beginner riders. Expect to be with us for a little over an hour for signing in, handling instruction, familiarizing yourself with the horses, mounting up and the trail ride.

Requirements

  • Please arrive 30 minutes prior to the scheduled time of your ride
  • Children must be at least 7 years old and 50″ tall to ride on our trail
  • Riders under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian sign their waiver
  • We provide helmets for all riders and they are required for minors
  • Weight restrictions do apply for the safety of our horses and riders (max 240 lbs)

What To Wear 

  • Comfortable pants
  • Secure closed-toed shoes (no sandals or flip-flops)
  • Weather appropriate clothing (t-shirts in warm weather, jackets/gloves in winter)

What is the cancellation policy?

We prefer cancellations be done over the phone, as we cannot check our e-mail throughout the day.

  • E-mail cancellations will still be honored, but your card may be charged before we get to the e-mail and we will then have to issue a refund.
  • Cancellations must be made before 2 hours scheduled ride time.
  • You will receive a full refund if you cancel 2 hours before your scheduled ride.
  • To ensure prompt cancellation please call us at 570-839-8725 and, if it is outside our business hours, please leave us a message.
How far in advance should I book a trail ride?

All trail rides are cut off for online booking 24 hours in advance. Call us at 570-839-8725 with any day-of booking questions.

If you do not see availability online for the date and time you’d like to book, then all rides are full. We do not provide availability via e-mail.

What are the age, height, and weight requirements for riders?

We have a weight limit of 240 pounds, though this is dependent on height. If you have anyone in your party who is close to or over 240 pounds please get their exact height and weight and give us a call or send us an e-mail and we can see if we have a horse that can accommodate them.

We also have a minimum height requirement of 50” for both adults and children. Children must be at least 7 years old to ride.

Are helmets required for horseback riding?

Helmets are provided at no additional cost. They are mandatory for riders under 18 and optional for adults.

Can I book a ride if I have no prior horseback riding experience?

Absolutely! Our rides are designed for beginners, and no prior experience is necessary. Our friendly guides will ensure you feel comfortable and safe throughout the ride.

What is the best time of year for horseback riding in the Poconos?

Horseback riding is available year-round. Each season offers unique scenery: spring and summer showcase lush greenery, fall provides vibrant foliage, and winter offers serene snow-covered trails.

What is the duration of a typical horseback trail ride?

Our standard horseback trail rides last approximately 45–50 minutes. This gives you plenty of time to explore the scenic trails of the Poconos while enjoying a relaxed and enjoyable experience. For those looking for a longer ride, we also offer private group sessions with customizable durations.

What types of trails will we be riding on during the trail ride?

Our horseback trail rides take you through beautiful wooded areas, scenic meadows, and picturesque trails with stunning views of the Poconos. The trails are suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to more experienced riders, offering a peaceful and scenic experience in nature.

Do you offer group horseback riding sessions or private rides?

We offer both group trail rides and private rides to suit your preferences. Our group rides are a fun way to enjoy the experience with others, while our private rides provide a more personalized and exclusive adventure, perfect for families, couples, or small groups.

Can I bring my own horse to the stable?

For the safety of all our guests and horses, we do not allow visitors to bring their own horses. We provide well-trained and friendly horses for all our trail rides, ensuring an enjoyable and safe experience for riders of all levels.
